MISTAKES:
I'VE MADE A FEW...
DEADLY LITTLE SECRETS was ready for publication in the early 2000’s except my (then) agent told me that while she liked it,“I can’t sell it.”
“Why?”
“AIDS is no longer an issue.”
That stopped me. How I wish it hadn’t. What I should have said in reply: “AH, but the hate, bigotry and stigma that this epidemic triggered is very much alive in our culture.”
A few years later and with the advent of eBooKs I self published this novel set in 1985 that captured the tensions building in this country regarding ‘morality.’
I was there, in the middle of it during the 1980’s when health care practitioners everywhere were afraid. We didn’t know how it was contracted. We only knew that gay men were dying quickly and nobody seemed to care.
A few years later, I did self publish an eBook version only. I collected about 30 reviews; thoughtful reviews that for some reason I did not capture on my iphone. I just took the eBook down because this ‘traditionally published’ writer-in magazines and books- was embarrassed by my self-pub’ed novel. A truth that haunted me. I love this story that includes teenagers in its telling, and all of it, from plot points to characters, imagined from real people I either worked with in the clinical setting or interviewed once I shifted to magazine writing.
I’m no longer haunted. I published Deadly Little Secrets in paperback and eBook recently. The stats on it are decent considering I have 1 review so if you downloaded it during my recent giveaway, please review.
Last word: Writers, keep one eye-at least-on your ego.

It's such a good read. Older folks like me will be reminded of a trying time. Youngsters will say, was it really like that? Yes, it really was.
