Authors & Book Promotion, 21st Century Style

Indie author Rick Shaw joins Marla Miller!

I began my own journey of ‘author book promotion’ back when my first book was published by a major publisher and yet? The help they offered was minimal. What I didn’t know in the early 2000’s was that the traditional publishing industry was shrinking. They called it ‘downsizing’. Thousands of ‘midlist’ authors were let go by their houses because their sale numbers didn’t warrant keeping them in-house. Consequently, many took to indie publishing, republishing their books on platforms like Createspace.

In my workshops back then, I spent considerable time educating/informing my writers of the changing landscape in American publishing. But back then? Would be authors weren’t much interested in ‘promotion’ preferring to focus their energies on writing and publishing their stories FREE on these platforms.

Except nothing’s free. Within a few years of books piling up on these new publishing platforms, would be authors understood what I’d been preaching in my workshops: One you write The End to your story, the hard part begins. Promoting books is not for the weak hearted.

Author/teacher Rick Shaw joined me for this session of AUTHORS & BOOK Promotion, 21st Century Style

Listen and hopefully take away a few tips that might help you promote your books, too. But remember! Promotion begins BEFORE your book hits the book stores!
